Getting to Porto is quite simple thanks to Portugal’s superb transportation system and you’ll have a lot of options to choose from. You may elect to fly there and disembark at the Sa Carneiro Airport, a little over nine miles from the city. From there you can take a bus for 4 Euro, a taxi for 20 Euro or the Metro line for 1.35 Euro.

If you prefer rail travel, trains from Madrid are frequent and prompt. You will have to transfer once but the schedules are planned so well that it’s a fast, safe and relaxing trip. Porto’s Sao Bento train station is said to be the most beautiful in the world, its walls covered with murals made up of twenty thousand azulejos tiles.

You can also rent a car and drive to Porto, which is serviced by five major highways. However, traffic is said to be highly chaotic and it’s best to avoid rush hour if you can. Should you opt instead for bus travel, you’ll have a much more comfortable trip.
